Dreaming of a plastic-free future

From plastic storage containers and bottles, to straws and disposable coffee cups. Plastic has moulded its way into our lives on a large scale since the 1940’s. It’s cheap, waterproof and hardwearing, but it’s having detrimental effects on our environment, and our health. With a million bottles being bought around the world every minute, our recycling efforts can’t keep up with demand.

A plastic bottle can take anywhere between 400 and 1,000 years to decompose, which is a long time especially when you take into consideration that only 1 in 5 plastic bottles are actually recycled, while 20 billion end up in landfills each year, or leak into our oceans.

Waste plastic bottles on beach

“There are 500 times more pieces of micro-plastic in the sea than there are stars in our galaxy and by 2050 it is estimated there will be more plastic than fish…”

Johnston, I (2017) The Independent.

Respecting the planet is important to us and we strive to do our best where possible.

We only use glass bottles. Unlike plastic, there are no harmful chemicals in glass, so no chemicals leach into our products. Glass is environmentally friendly, it’s 100% recyclable and 100% natural.

Some plastic bottles are recyclable but many aren’t due to their chemical make-up, so they cannot be turned into new bottles. We re-use our bottles over and over again. We also offer a bottle exchange, so if you bring your juice bottle back to our store we’ll refund you 50p off your next purchase, and for a boost bottle we’ll give you 25p.

Most juice companies use plastic and a process called hpp to extend the juice shelf life. OG Juice prides itself on using glass bottles and shortening the shelf life to keep the highest quality product where possible. By using glass we are also able to retain the flavours of the vegetables and fruits so your juices taste their best.

Look after your body, your planet and raise a glass to recycling.

Here’s how you can do your bit.
